The KPMG Nigeria graduate trainee programme is one of the more structured graduate starts in the country. KPMG is a professional services firm with audit, tax, advisory and consulting work, and its graduate scheme puts new hires into a training school, then into live client teams, with support towards professional exams. This guide explains what the programme involves, who it is aimed at, how the selection stages run, and how to apply safely.

Current status: the 2027 KPMG Nigeria graduate trainee application window closed on 6 March 2026, according to the official KPMG Nigeria careers page. We checked the official careers pages on October 23, 2026 and did not find a verified open graduate trainee vacancy at the time of writing. Treat this guide as a preparation guide for the next intake, and check the official careers page before you do anything else.

What the KPMG Nigeria graduate trainee programme offers

KPMG describes its graduate programme as a way for curious graduates to learn how organisations grow and how strategy becomes action. Successful candidates go through a training school before they start client work. The official page says successful candidates resume training school in September, ahead of the firm’s new financial year, which begins on 1 October. For the 2027 cycle, that meant a September 2026 training school start.

After training, trainees rotate through the firm’s service lines and work on real client projects. The firm says it supports trainees towards professional qualifications, so the scheme suits people who want a long career in professional services rather than a short placement. Pay, allowances and the exact training structure are not published on the pages we checked, so do not rely on figures from forums or social media posts.

Who can apply

The official KPMG Nigeria page lists these criteria for the 2027 cycle. Check them again against the live page before you apply, since the criteria can change between intakes.

  • A minimum of a Second-Class Upper Division from a recognised university, in a relevant discipline.
  • At least five O’ Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
  • Law graduates need a Second-Class Upper Division in their first degree and in Law School.
  • Some units require a Chartered Accountant qualification (ACA or ACCA).
  • Under 28 years old at the time of application.
  • Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
  • Strong research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, Power BI and similar tools.
  • No KPMG aptitude test taken in the last 12 months.

The age limit and the NYSC requirement are the two points people most often get wrong. If you are close to 28, count your age on the day you apply, not the day you start thinking about it. If you are still waiting for your NYSC call-up or discharge, you may not meet the requirement yet, so keep that in mind when you plan your timeline.

The application and selection journey

KPMG describes a hybrid selection approach with these stages: application, data validation, aptitude test, assessment centre, partner interview, then offer. Not every candidate will reach every stage, and the firm states that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

  1. Application. You choose one business area and submit your details on the official portal.
  2. Data validation. KPMG checks the details in your application. Make sure what you submit matches your documents exactly.
  3. Aptitude test. A timed test of reasoning and numerical ability. Practise under timed conditions before you sit it.
  4. Assessment centre. Group and individual exercises that test how you think and work with others.
  5. Partner interview. A conversation with a senior person about your fit, your motivation and your examples.
  6. Offer. Successful candidates receive an offer, then start training.

KPMG’s notice is clear that multiple applications will lead to automatic disqualification. Read the service lines before you pick one, and choose the one that fits your degree and your interests. Changing your mind later does not reopen a closed application.

Choosing a business area

The official careers page lists service lines including Financial Risk Management, Forensic, Tax, Regulatory and People Services, Environmental, Social and Governance, Accounting Advisory Services, Audit and IT Audit, Strategy and Customer Solutions, People and Change, Transaction Services, Infrastructure and Internal Audit, Governance, Risk and Compliance Services, and Technology Advisory. Spend time on the descriptions for each one. An interviewer will ask why you picked your area, and a vague answer is easy to spot.

How to prepare your application

Start with a CV that proves the claims you make. KPMG asks for strong analytical and writing skills, so show them. Replace duty lists with results. Instead of saying you handled data, say what you did with the data and what changed because of it. If you have a final-year project, a research paper, or a case competition, put it on the CV with the outcome.

Gather your documents early. You will need your degree certificate, your transcript, your O’ Level results, your NYSC discharge certificate, and any professional exam results. Scan them clearly and check that the names match across every document. A small mismatch can slow down data validation.

Practise the tools named in the criteria. Use Excel for lookups, pivot tables and basic formulas. Build one simple chart in PowerPoint and one in Power BI using public data. Being able to show a finished piece of work in an interview carries more weight than saying you know a tool.

How to prepare for the aptitude test and assessment centre

Aptitude tests reward speed and accuracy. Work through practice questions on reasoning, number series, data tables and written comprehension, and time yourself. Many people lose marks because they spend too long on one hard question. Skip it, come back, and move on.

At the assessment centre, expect group tasks that test how you listen, how you contribute and how you handle disagreement. Speak clearly, let others finish, and summarise what the group has agreed. Interviewers usually remember the person who helped the group move forward, not the person who talked the most.

For the partner interview, prepare three short stories from your life: a time you led something, a time you failed and recovered, and a time you disagreed with someone and were right to do so. Keep each story to about two minutes, and end with what you learned.

What happens after you join

New trainees first learn the firm’s standards, tools and ways of working. The official page says training school comes before client work, and the firm supports trainees towards professional exams. How you use that time matters. Ask questions early, keep a record of the work you do, and find a mentor who will tell you the truth about your progress.

How to spot a fake KPMG opportunity

Scam warning: fake KPMG job offers are common on social media and messaging apps. Scammers copy KPMG’s name, logo and careers language, then ask you to pay a “processing fee”, buy a “training kit”, send your national ID number and bank details to a personal account, or pay for a “guaranteed” place. KPMG does not charge candidates to apply, and no genuine employer asks you to pay to secure a role. If a message asks for money, never send it, and check the opportunity only on the official careers page at kpmg.com/ng/en/careers.html.

Frequently asked questions

Is the KPMG Nigeria graduate trainee programme open right now?

Not as far as we could verify. The official KPMG Nigeria page shows the 2027 graduate trainee application closed on 6 March 2026. We did not find a verified open graduate trainee vacancy on the official careers pages checked on October 23, 2026. Check the official page again before you plan your application.

Is it free to apply?

Yes. Applying through the official portal does not require payment. Anyone who asks you to pay for a place, a test code or a guaranteed offer is not from KPMG.

Do I need an accounting degree?

Not in every case. KPMG hires across several areas, and the criteria list relevant disciplines rather than one degree. Some units require ACA or ACCA qualifications, so read the requirements for your chosen area.

What is the age limit?

The official criteria say you must be under 28 years old at the time of application. Work out your exact age on the day you apply.

Do I need NYSC to apply?

The criteria require completion of the National Youth Service Corps programme. If you have not finished NYSC, you may not meet this requirement yet.

Can I apply for more than one area?

KPMG warns that multiple applications will lead to automatic disqualification. Choose one area carefully before you submit.

Where should I apply?

Only through the official KPMG Nigeria careers page at kpmg.com/ng/en/careers.html or the KPMG Nigeria graduate programme page at apps.ng.kpmg.com/careers/recruitment/gt-program.html.

Can I reapply if I took the aptitude test before?

The official criteria say you should not have taken the KPMG aptitude test within the last 12 months. If you sat it recently, wait until that period has passed before you apply again, and use the time to strengthen your results.
