PTDF In-Country Scholarship 2026/27: Official Status and Eligibility

2026 PTDF Local Scholarship Application Form Portal Is Open

Status checked: October 20, 2026. PTDF’s official 2026/27 In-Country Scholarship Scheme guidelines stated that applications ran from April 27 to June 5, 2026. That published window has passed. Do not treat this article as a live application call; use PTDF’s official portal and news pages to check for a future announcement.

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) supports Nigerian human-capacity development for the oil and gas sector. Its in-country and overseas scholarship schemes have different eligibility rules, supported courses, and deadlines.

What the 2026/27 in-country scheme covered

PTDF’s official guidelines invited qualified Nigerians to apply for undergraduate, MSc, and PhD scholarships in Nigerian public universities only. The scheme is restricted to specific courses and is described by PTDF as competitive and merit-driven.

Key requirements from the official in-country guidelines

  • A National Identity Number (NIN) is required before application; PTDF notes that NIMC verification charges may apply.
  • Applicants must use public universities and PTDF-approved courses only.
  • Undergraduate applicants must be full-time 200-level students in relevant fields, with the academic records and documents specified by PTDF.
  • MSc and PhD applicants need full-time admission, relevant academic qualifications, and the supporting documents listed in the official guidelines.
  • Past PTDF beneficiaries cannot apply for the same or a lower degree category, and current beneficiaries of other scholarships need not apply.

Important distinction: PTDF overseas scholarships

PTDF’s separate 2026 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme covered approved programmes at selected partner universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia. Its official notice says applications for that call closed on February 27, 2026. Do not apply the in-country criteria or deadline to the overseas scheme.

How to verify a future application call

  1. Check the PTDF Scholarship Management Portal for live account, guideline, and news information.
  2. Read the published guideline for the relevant year and scheme before creating an application.
  3. Confirm that your course, university, qualifications, and documents match the current requirements.
  4. Use only the official PTDF portal; do not pay a person, agent, or third-party website promising selection.

How to get ready for the next in-country call

Since the published window has closed, the smart move is to prepare for a future call rather than chase a shut portal. Sort your National Identity Number now, because PTDF requires it before application and NIMC verification can take time. If you are an undergraduate, confirm you will be a full-time 200-level student in a relevant field at a public university, and keep your results and academic records organised. Postgraduate applicants should secure full-time admission and gather the qualifications and documents the guidelines list. Follow the official PTDF portal and news pages so you see a new dated announcement first, and read that year’s guideline in full before creating an application.

Keep the two PTDF schemes separate

A common and costly mistake is mixing up the in-country and overseas schemes. They have different eligibility rules, supported courses, deadlines, and even application windows, so criteria for one do not apply to the other. The in-country scheme funds study at Nigerian public universities, while the overseas scheme sends postgraduates to approved partner universities abroad. Before you prepare anything, confirm which scheme you are eligible for and read only that scheme’s official guideline. Treating them as one is how applicants waste effort or miss a deadline that never applied to them in the first place.

Official sources and verification

  • PTDF Scholarship Management Portal : official account access, guidance, news, and support contacts.
  • PTDF 2026/27 In-Country Scholarship Guidelines : official eligibility, courses, documents, and the published April 27–June 5, 2026 application window.
  • PTDF 2026 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Notice : separate scheme information and published February 27, 2026 closing date.

Last checked: October 20, 2026. Scholarship calls, supported courses, fees, and eligibility can change. Confirm directly with PTDF before paying any charge, sharing personal information, or making study plans.
