AI Literacy in Nigeria: Learn, Review and Use AI Responsibly

Updated 15 August 2026: AI tools may help with some tasks, but they do not guarantee that your work will be faster, more accurate, original, or better than someone else’s. Tools, features, pricing, and availability can change. Treat AI as assistance that requires clear instructions, human review, and responsible handling of information.

Build practical AI literacy

Google provides introductory AI and responsible-AI learning resources. OpenAI Academy teaches how to give clear instructions, add useful context, review outputs, and create repeatable workflows. Begin with a small, low-risk task, document what you want, compare the output against trusted sources, and improve your process over time.

Review every output

1. Check factual statements, dates, numbers, citations, and links against reliable original sources.
2. Check for missing context, harmful assumptions, copyright concerns, and a tone that fits the audience.
3. Do not present generated text, code, images, or analysis as independently verified work when it has not been reviewed.
4. Use a human decision-maker for high-stakes, legal, medical, financial, security, or employment outcomes.

Protect privacy and permissions

Do not enter passwords, OTPs, private client files, bank details, health information, identity documents, unpublished work, or confidential data unless you have permission and understand the service’s current controls. Review the tool’s privacy and data-control settings. OpenAI’s Data Controls FAQ explains that settings and options can differ by account context and can change.
