Status checked: October 23, 2026. Status: closed. Nigerian Army recruitment is not one single always-open portal. The official Regular Recruit Intake (RRI) page currently says “NO ongoing application”, while the official recruitment portal states that the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027 officer application was open from August 14, 2026 to October 17, 2026 and is now closed. The SSCC 50/2027 application window has closed, so this page does not open an application. Watch the official portal for the next intake.

Do not pay an agent, use a link sent on social media, or treat a past 91RRI recruitment announcement as a current opening. Check the official portal before creating an account because Regular Recruit Intake, Short Service Combatant Commission, and Direct Short Service Commission are different routes with different qualifications.

Current official Nigerian Army recruitment status

Route Official status as of October 23, 2026 What this means
Regular Recruit Intake (RRI), including past 91RRI notices The official short-service portal displays “NO ongoing application.” Do not submit money or documents to anyone claiming RRI/91RRI is currently open unless the Nigerian Army changes its own official portal notice.
Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027 Closed. The application window ran from August 14 to October 17, 2026 and is no longer accepting applications. This is an officer commission route for qualifying civilians and serving personnel, not a general replacement for RRI.

Who should watch for the next SSCC intake?

Read the entire official notice of any future intake before applying. The Nigerian Army’s published SSCC conditions include Nigerian citizenship by birth, medical/physical fitness, age limits, a qualifying first degree or HND, academic and identity documents, and NYSC/service conditions. The notice also includes different requirements for civilians and serving personnel. Do not assume that an SSCE-only applicant or a former RRI applicant automatically qualifies for SSCC.

How to apply safely through the official route

  1. Check the official Nigerian Army portal at nashortservice.army.mil.ng for the next short-service or officer intake. SSCC 50/2027 is closed.
  2. Read the full notice for that intake when it opens, including eligibility, age cut-off date, required documents and whether you are a civilian or serving member.
  3. Prepare now so you are ready: gather your certificates, NYSC or exemption certificate, state-of-origin certificate, birth or age document, passport photo, NIN and BVN slips, and check that your names and dates match across them.
  4. When an intake opens, register only with an email you control and complete the official form yourself. Applications are free of charge.
  5. Print the generated documents only after completing the official online application and follow the notice for any later selection-board process.

Protect yourself from recruitment scams

  • The official SSCC notice says the application is free of charge. Anyone requesting a registration, slot, screening, training, or “shortlisting” fee is not an authorised application channel.
  • Use only addresses ending in army.mil.ng for Nigerian Army recruitment information and official email contacts.
  • Do not upload documents or share OTPs, BVN, passwords, or payment details through a WhatsApp contact, Telegram channel, copied web address, or an unverified Facebook post.
  • For official support, the current recruitment page lists recruitment@army.mil.ng, 193, and the additional numbers in the notice. Verify them on the portal itself before calling.
  • Be cautious with old 91RRI posts. A past recruitment window does not mean the RRI route is open now.

Official Nigerian Army sources

Last checked: October 23, 2026. Recruitment windows and eligibility can change. Confirm the live notice on the official Nigerian Army portal before applying or travelling for any screening activity.

How to spot a fake Nigerian Army recruitment

First thing to burn into your memory: the Nigerian Army does not sell recruitment. The official SSCC portal at nashortservice.army.mil.ng is free. Anyone charging you for a form, a slot or a connection at the Depot in Zaria is a fraud, no exceptions.

Watch for the usual tricks. A fake list of successful candidates posted before the Army announces anything. A soldier on WhatsApp who guarantees your name on the list for a fee. A site that copies the Army logo but sits on a strange web address. Someone asking for your NIN and a transfer to secure your place. Each one is a red flag. Report it and move on.

Are you eligible? A quick checklist

Run a quick check before you apply.

  • You are a Nigerian by birth.
  • For the trade and non-tradesmen intake, age is usually 18 to 22, a little higher for graduates.
  • You have an SSCE with credits in the required subjects.
  • Men are about 1.68m tall, women about 1.65m.
  • You are medically and physically fit, with no criminal record.
  • Your certificate, NIN and date of birth all agree.

The Army screens these details strictly at the centre, so fix any mismatch before you submit.

What the real recruitment process looks like

The genuine process is straightforward. The Army opens the portal and announces the intake. You register for free, fill the form honestly and print your documents. A screening exercise is held at state centres, where your credentials, height, fitness and medicals are checked in person. Pass the screening and your name appears on the official shortlist on the Army portal. Successful candidates then report to the Depot for training. Free from start to finish, and every update comes from the official site.
